A Happy Freeloader!
My next painting is rather bittersweet for me because I am starting a painting of this beautiful Macaw that is no longer with us, but loved by all. This bird was wild but loved people and ultimately caused his demise. His name was Banano and was a featured resident attraction in the small community of El Castillo, Costa Rica.
Banano would greet us every morning on the deck and wait for his treat of pistachios! We enjoyed his company and all the children adored him. Unfortunately, he became a bit too friendly and would hop on cars to hitch a ride down to the local store in town. He met his fate during this year’s high tourist season when he was hit and killed.
These majestic birds are truly amazing and very smart…and need to be protected. It was an unfortunate accident and, therefore, I wanted to pay tribute to him and all of the rest of the Macaws still in the wild. This painting will hang in a local restaurant call “Howlers Bar and Grill” and was commissioned by the owner. I started the painting and hope you will follow along with the progress as I continue to paint this stunning creature.
Rest in Peace sweet bird…you will be missed!
Continued work shown here on this beautiful bird after another session of painting! He is coming to life!
