A NEW SPACE FOR A NEW YEAR – Artist’s Corner

What an ending to 2016! Whew! Between volcanoes blowing in Costa Rica, hurricanes in Florida, and my husband having surgery…I will say I was glad to see this past year say “Bye Bye”!  So here we are into 2017 and since this week I celebrated a birthday and my 29th anniversary, I decided I would give you an update on what has been going on in my artist life.  Exciting beginnings to this new year!  I would like to include that I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and a Happy New Year!

The New Art Loft…

The biggest news is my new Art Loft! We remodeled the 3rd floor in our home that was once one of my children’s bedrooms, (more like a bedroom loft).  A few steps to climb, but I look at it as keeping me young and in shape.  We decided that my second floor art studio was getting a bit too cramped since my husband and I both are into art, therefore, we decided that this third floor space would be perfect for art.  My grown son was living in this room while in college and now was empty.  We are now in the final stages of the construction with the stairs being converted from carpet to wood.  This is the biggest change, getting beautiful new wood flooring. Here are a few images of the work that we have done.

Let the Fun Begin…

Never Ending Story…

With my husband sick and having surgery, this project was put on hold several times and with the holidays and all, I am just so glad that the new year has brought some order to our life and we are on the road to getting it all done.  The old room had a huge counter that was a cover for an old air conditioning unit. My wonderful wood worker was able to salvage the built in drawers and make a cabinet on the far side of the room.  A few more pictures of the construction:

At last the floor goes in and the room is coming together along with two new fans and recessed lighting.

At Last…

The room is in it’s final stages! The floor is down and I couldn’t wait to bring up my easel and some throw rugs to see how I was going to like working in the new space.

We found that we could not get the table up the stairs so my carpenter saw a way to cut the legs down and add castors so it would roll for me.  It made it up the stairs and I love having a table that I can move out of the way when I need to work on big projects.

Welcome to my New Art Studio!

The finish work was done except for a few details but it is more than I expected.  Here are a few pictures of the finished room.  Of course, I had to add a dog wall to my room. I love it…

I finished my peacock feather for a grand entrance to my working space…

…along with an old window hung for an added feature to the stair well and to give some interest and mystery to the room.

A few plants to clean the air and to feel complete…along with a great view of my backyard garden makes this space a wonderful environment for a working artist.

I hope you have enjoyed the tour and a glimpse into my art world.  If you need to find me, this is where I will be…no mystery there.
